Don’t listen to Billionaires

The mega rich love sowing discord, finding ways to divide the public, and eroding institutions and governments that seek to curtail their continued lust for wealth. This pattern is on full display in Australia right now, with the latest example being the attempt to turn people against our legal system in the Ben Roberts-Smith case.
Usually we hear about how bad crime is, and how soft the legal system is, but now suddenly it’s corrupt in the other direction. It’s too hard. It shouldn’t be investigating things like war crimes. Apparently accountability only matters when it suits them.
Then the added faux patriotism, and borrowed valour, by linking their cause to a military whose service members apparently shouldn’t be questioned. This isn’t respect for our troops; it’s using them as a shield.
Why should we listen to anything that a mining billionaire has to say when it comes to things like this? Why should their words be taken with anything other than extreme skepticism and suspicion?
